Barbie is the co-founder and chief strategist for the Fit and Empowered Minds Mentorship Program. This program is specifically designed for female students attending Pittsburgh public schools, and focuses on improving public safety and community relations. It encourages young women to lead healthy, active lifestyles while promoting educational and occupational goals, providing homework help in all subject areas, and preparing for college applications. Barbie is a former adjunct professor in Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh. She currently works for the City of Pittsburgh in Emergency Management and Homeland Security. Additionally, she is a CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) instructor, focusing on disaster medical triage, basic emergency preparedness and team building. As a tutor, Barbie focuses on developing a positive and comfortable rapport with students encouraging them to ask questions and to advocate for their own learning needs. Barbie is a fluent Spanish speaker.
