Essie began her career as a New York City Teaching Fellow following her graduation from the University of Pittsburgh. In Oregon, she served as a classroom teacher and mentor teacher, helping other teachers strengthen their instructional practice. She wrote Common Core aligned curriculum and assessments in all subject areas, has experience working with children in both regular and special education programs and is trained in RTI, Differentiated Instruction, Backward Design, Balanced Literacy, Writer’s Workshop, Scottish Storyline, Project Based Learning, DMI: Building a System of Tens, Number Talks, ATI, GLAD, SIOP, ELD: A Focused Approach, Love and Logic, PBIS, and the Orton-Gillingham approach to reading instruction. Essie moved back to Pittsburgh in 2015.
